Remembrance Day

Hey everyone! It has been awhile but I have been really busy with things non-school related which I won't bore you with... Anyway, it's Remembrance Day! As my adorable partner Nathan is currently serving in the Australian Army, Remembrance Day is very important to me. Today my Yr 2/3 class used a fantastic free unit from the amazing blog Suesstastic Classroom Inspiration (Click on the link for the unit) and wrote letters to  soldiers. Luckily for my class, their letters will be sent over to my partners team who have kindly offered to write back to the kids!! This is some of the letters (Some of the boys were very frank in their questions!)

So today was one of those days where I had been booked in for a few days beforehand and *assumed* (very naughty word in relief teaching!) that the teacher had left things to do. Hurrah though! I was able to teach all my own lessons! I do appreciate that teachers have insane time frames to get things completed and am more than happy to complete all set work, but sometimes there'nothing like being able to teach what you like! Unfortunately though this usually occurs when I least prepare for it, which brings me to today. For maths the only resources I had brought along was some fake money and some toy catalogues (Don't ask me what I was thinking when packing my bag this morning!!) so I had students go 'Christmas Shopping' for their families and gave them different budgets. They had a ball and were quite the savvy shoppers!

Then we created a classroom shopping centre! Unfortunately I didn't have my fantastic Classroom Shop Village unit with me (You can find it here) so we improvised and created a book shop, stationary shop and games shop. I quickly wrote up some shopping lists and away we went!

In the afternoon we read 'The Day the Crayons Quit' (I just love love love this book) and made a class version of the book (See other blog posts for this activity). And now I'm enjoying a cup of tea and the rain :)
