So we started our term concentrating on poetry. Using the fantastic resources from Creative Teaching Supplies, my kids worked on identifying rhyming words, writing noun groups and creating their own poems.
Poetry isn't easy and the first week I'll admit I was worried because my students couldn't even identify the rhyming sound in two given words. Yep it was that bad! But they soon picked it up with the help of two fantastic resources, which you can find here and here
So that was at the start of the term, and I'm going to move right on up to this week because the weeks in between have been a lot of shifting and reorganising the classroom and schedule and generally discovering what works and what doesn't.
This week is Dinosaur week!!! I myself love dinosaurs, and I decided it was high time for a theme. In literacy we have been doing a variety of activities which I will do another post on later in the week. Today, however, we started our measurement unit and used my Dinosaur measurement task cards (freebies you can find here) and small dinosaurs to informally measure given items. The students LOVED this! My advanced students are working on making a life-size model of a Velociraptor which will be very interesting indeed!
