Tuesday Fun

Today I had Year 2/3 again and we had an absolutely fantastic day! We started off with popcorn writing. Students pick out a setting and a character from the popcorn box (They have to stick with first choice otherwise I get all my students wasting time looking at all the other options) and then write a story using their character and setting. I love encouraging creativity so I adore creative writing and the students did a fantastic job, two of my boys wrote five pages!

 

Then we went onto Reading Groups, where most of the students had more time during Writing to finish off their stories. After recess, we cooked up some Pizzas with my Pizzeria Fractions Café Unit (You can find it here). The students were so engaged (even my *excitable* students) and it gve me a good idea of what they knew about fractions. Here are some pizzas being cooked!

 

 

 





 In the afternoon, it was pouring rain and storming so we explored Chemical Reactions with the amazing Fizzy Science Mixing Labs (Find for free here). These are aimed more at Stage 1 but my students loved them and had no idea what density was before we started. I can't believe how easy this lesson was! There was a little bit of preparation involved but most of the ingredients I already had in the kitchen and the students went CRAZY over being able to perform experiments. All in all we had  fantastic day, hope yours was too :)
