As mentioned in the previous post, after introducing fractions with my Pizzeria Fractions unit, the students made up their own orders, swapped with a friend and then made up their new orders! They loved this activity but needed a lot of help with making sure their orders were correct.
To really consolidate their knowledge, we used coloured counting beans to represent fractions. Students were given 8 eight beans in two different colours. I wrote a fraction on the whiteboard and students had to use the beans to demonstrate their understanding of the fraction. Some students took longer to understand, but once the lightbulbs came on they loved this activity!
To cap off the week before a quick assessment worksheet, students created some cute hand crafts. They had to write the fractions represented by the stickers and this really had them thinking!
This week we are learning about Time while also frantically assessing for report cards!! Good luck to all the Australian teachers with report writing!
