A Day in First Grade...

For the last two days I have been lucky enough to be teaching in an amazing Year 1 class and here's what we got up to today!

Our literacy time was spent having a picnic! Using the unit 'Picnic Pals' by Regan Tunstall from Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits, the students made sight word sandwiches, compound word cordial, sorted potato chips into blend packets, sorted ch word hotdogs and cooked up some Spaghetti Spelling and also went fishing for sight words. What a morning! They had an absolute ball and were so engaged and engrossed in their learning.

You can find the Picnic Pals unit here. This unit also comes with more literacy activities we haven't used yet and some fantastic maths activities that we will be having fun with next week.
The Spaghetti Spelling is a free product you can get here and the Let's Go Fishing activity was posted in a previous post and is also a free activity.

For Maths we are finishing up a 3-D Shape unit and made a reference flip flap book which we mounted onto cardboard. The students had a lot of fun making this, and I was so impressed with their work. They took a lot of pride in the final product and here is what they look like! You can find this fantastic unit here

As part of their HSIE Celebrations unit we also made some Halloween Art which I forgot to take photos of
:( I very excited to have this class for next week and have some great units I am currently working on so stay posted for more ideas and photos. Thanks!
