Week so far...

So far this week, Year 1 have been super busy. Today we started our new maths unit on division and equal grouping and I created a great unit for this which is available here. Today we used concrete materials and equal grouping mats to practice and then made our cute little Mr. division man.

Using the concrete materials gave the students a great starting point for the unit and also keep little hands and minds busy! They grasped the concept quickly and had fun.

We have also been concentrating on compound words and magic/bossy e (We call it magic e but there are so many different names for it so it doesn't matter what you call it!). I loved Cara Carroll's (The First Grade Parade) idea of 'cooking'up compound words (Read the post here) so we did our own version and also made our own recipe books! The kids loved this and i'll admit I had fun drawing our little chef :)
I made the silent e sliders as I have seen something similar on Pinterest and the other activity is a freebie which you can find here

We also started a literacy unit on Spiders. We will be learning a lot about spiders in order to write fantastic information reports. Today we brainstormed what we already knew about spiders and made some cute spider crafts. The unit I am using for our spider information reports can be found here.
This week is going to be super busy and I can't wait to share it all with you :)
