Whole Brain Teaching

This is the video that A LOT of teachers are discussing; it is Whole Brain Teaching in the classroom. And I have to say, I think it looks amazing. While some of the movements and chants are a bit too cheesy for me, I love that the students are so engaged and involved in their own and each others learning. They are explicitly learning metalanguage and teaching each other the key concepts which I think is fantastic. I have found a few articles and links to products that helps explain the Whole Brain Teaching concept and can help you implement it in your classroom.

Whole Brain Teaching has been around for awhile and I was first introduced to the concept whilst at university. Basically, Whole Brain Thinking is the recognisation that individuals exhibit a variety of interactive thinking preferences;

* Analyse
* Organise
* Personalise
* Synthesise

Whole brain thinking and teaching means using all four parts of the brain, or thinking preferences.
So many things that teachers already currently do or implement, come from Whole Brain Thinking. Things such as;
Graphic organizers
Blooms Taxonomy
Group work
Reflection
Differentiation

 So here are the links for more information;

Please let me know if you are using or thinking about using Whole Brain Teaching in your classroom. I read the book 'The Thinking Platform' by Kate O'Brien and Dan White and it is a fantastic resource.
